CHARACTER INFORMATION
NAME: Chongyun
CANON: Genshin Impact
CANON REFERENCE: Overview & Lore
CANON POINT: Current patch: 2.5 "When the Sakura Blooms"
CRAU HISTORY: N/A
AGE: 17
APPEARANCE: A boy. Chongyun stands at about 5'3" with an athletic build, sporting a palette of cool colors. Soft blue hair, clear blue eyes, catlike pupils, fair skin—while also wearing clothes that compliment these tones. Chongyun wears a symmetrical white hooded jacket with navy embroidery, a blue shirt over white pants with gold cuffs, along with a dark navy undershirt. Accessories include bandages around his right wrist and right ankle, his Vision on the left side of his belt, a best friend (gay) tassel on his belt, and a white parasol at his side. His clothing is described as traditional, with all the trappings of a thaumaturgist.

CONTRACT PAYMENT: To purge the world of evil spirits and (selfishly) the means to control his pure yang spirit.

QUESTIONNAIRE:

Your Faction leader, not just your boss but the leader, has asked you to carry out a hit. The target is a non-affiliated public leader, well-liked by the people of the city. Do you carry it out? Why or why not?

For Chongyun, this could be extremely simple or somewhat complicated: it all depends on the public leader. Even if this public leader is well-liked, if he turned out to be an evil spirit and was deserving of purging? He would do so without question. Public officials, after all, are never quite what they seem—they have to put on a certain face in front of the people. CY's first instinct would be to investigate to get a better sense of who this person is. If it turns out they're secretly hurting people, using underhanded means, or otherwise evil? Yeah. Done deal. Slap 'em into the sun.

If not? Chongyun would be a bit more conflicted. A contract with his faction leader would be something he takes very seriously—from the nation of contracts and all—but he also feels strongly about acting by his own discretion. If this official is actually good and helping the people, and if this hit is solely to put his own faction leader at some sort of advantage, he might opt to decline and accept responsibility for refusing to comply. At the end of the day, he isn't heartless—in fact, he's known around Liyue for having a clear heart and straightforward personality. There's an earnestness to him that pranksters and swindlers alike often take advantage of.

If it's punishment for his decision, it's punishment. He will accept it. Even if he signed the contract with every intention to comply ... he can't just fold on his beliefs.

How do you define "success"? What is something you're ambitious about?

Success is accomplishing your goals with your own hands, with your own strength.

Despite having a smooth ride as an exorcist and having successfully completed hundreds of exorcisms, Chongyun does not consider himself successful. Even if he's stronger than most, with an impressive number of jobs under his belt, it's all been by virtue of his innate condition. His pure yang spirit is too strong for evil spirits—all he has to do to purge them is sit where they lurk for a while. It requires absolutely no effort on his part. To Chongyun, this is not the true way—he believes with all of his heart that spirits should be purged with charms and martial arts. How can he claim to be a successful exorcist when he's never had to do anything of the sort?

His ambition is to prove that he is a qualified exorcist though hard work and training. It's exactly why he continues to train diligently despite never actually needing to put any of these other skills to use to purge evil spirits. Now, he searches for a spirit that is strong enough to withstand his presence so he can face it properly. Only then can he consider himself a qualified exorcist.

What is your favorite diversion? Hobbies, indulgences, vices? Would you put off important things for that diversion, or would you be more strict about how you spend your time and/or money?

Chongyun spends most of his time enjoying reserved hobbies and indulgences. He likes listening to the tea master tell stories, and the most indulgent he really gets is feeding his sweet-tooth. Popsicles are his usual choice, though he's noted as enjoying most sweets. He also really likes Inazuman cuisine, much of which is served cool or chilled. These are safe things that act as "yin" to his excessive yang—... which is where we reach the being strict part. Chongyun polices himself from anything "hot" or overstimulating. He does not go out in the sun or wear thick clothes, and he abstains from hot beverages and hot and spicy food. He takes up no quarrels, and he indulges no tempers.

He's also extremely diligent regarding his occupation, so even his acceptable diversions would be put aside in favor of pursuing evil spirits or acting in the interests of his clan. Due to both his innate condition and his position in the family, he's had more of a burden upon him than most, and rarely cuts loose. Because of his condition he usually turns down plans to socialize, though secretly wishes he could be more involved. He hasn't lived much of a "normal" life like most guys his age.

Thankfully he has friends that drag him out!

An oni of the Shuten Clan has gone completely berserk, and is going on a violent rampage through the city. You can't stop him, but you CAN lead him elsewhere, but you only have two choices: a road by a discotheque with a large crowd in front, or the nearby park that you do not know is unoccupied, and may have children present. What do you choose, and why?

Whew, Sophie's choice. A difficult one, but in the end, it really boils down to what you know and what you don't. With a small window to make a decision and act, there's no time to waste on discovering a worse situation. If he leads the oni to the park and there's a preschool having class outside, that situation would be way worse than warning a group outside a dance club to head inside or scatter.

By leading the oni to the road by the discotheque, Chongyun can at least try to continue to lead it to a more remote location where no one is. He can also call out to the partiers and tell them to scram—if they don't get the idea on their own to scatter from the giant lumbering oni. Who knows, maybe the oni just wants to party? The discotheque might even have the advantage of disorient or distract the oni with Brittney Spears and Ed Sheeran. Who can listen to Bad Habits and not start grooving?

....... Chongyun literally can't, actually, so it might just turn into the next footloose movie. What they say is true: the rhythm is gonna get you.

Overall, the park has too many unknowns. The discotheque, while potentially the worser choice if the park is actually empty, is known. He'll even offer to pay for the club's damages later.

POWERS & ABILITIES:

Pure Yang Spirit: Also known as congenital positivity, having a pure yang spirit the rarest form of it. Congenital positivity is when someone has too much yang energy, putting them out of balance with the natural yin-yang balance of the spirit. Chongyun's spirit is all yang baby, which is so rare that it only happens about once every thousand generations are so. It basically means he purges and repels evil for miles, and even peaceful spirits and ghosts are absolutely terrified of him.

It's made his journey as an exorcist as smooth as smooth can be, but it's troublesome on a personal level. He's extremely susceptible to heat or "heaty" things (rousing music, spicy food, excitement things, etc) and must be constantly vigilant in manually balancing himself out with yin (cold foods, ice baths, light clothes, using a parasol on sunny days). In game, I've basically nerfed this to characters are able to sense that his spirit is strong, bright, and strange, but it's not enough to instantly purge evil spirits anymore. When he gets too hot he gets embarrassing and rambunctious (aka, acts like a drunk), so I've decided to keep that bit because it's funny and doesn't cause harm (well, only to Chongyun keeping face).

Thaumaturgy, Martial Arts, and Claymore: Chongyun is an exorcist and his family has been protecting Liyue from evil for generations. To this end, they utilize charms and martial arts. Talisman, hand signs, magic, all sorts of traditional exorcist methods have been passed down in the family tomes. Chongyun also uses a claymore, which requires great physical strength to wield and is literally bigger than him. In combination with his Vision, he can rack up some great physical and cyro (ice) damage.

That being said, the sword and his Vision aren't making the trip with him—the sword would be too huge and the Vision way too powerful for game start. He'll be able to use magic in combination with talismans to a very small extent, and his general martial arts are still generally the same, without any magic buffs. His stats and talents are detailed here. They don't blend super seamlessly into RP like they would a game anyway, so we'll just say he knows how to use a greatsword real good if he ever gets his hands on one in game.

Exorcist Knowledge/Senses: As an exorcist and heir to the clan, he's had no lack of tools for studying the family business. Family tomes, training regiments, knowledge passed down from elder exorcists ... he's had them at his disposal. He also has pretty good judgement when something seems off about a person, but, of course, he isn't infallible in this. He also has general knowledge about the supernatural that the average person may not.

SUITABILITY: Chongyun is 17 so he is indeed on the slightly younger end! However, I don't think the game is anything he hasn't seen before. Despite being young, he already traveled across the nation in pursuit of evil spirits and has seen a lot. Battles are an every day of his life, since there are enemies absolutely everywhere in Teyvat. He's killed plenty of hilichurls, battled treasure hoarders, fought Fatui agents, etc.

Genshin doesn't shy away from some pretty dark themes, and while there isn't any overt sex/drugs/abuse/violence, it's implied and hinted at (they're trying to slip by censors in China and all). A lot of this is hidden in the game's lore, where they drop details such as characters drowning in darkness, dying, losing all hope, past wars, eating dreams, ghost kids who you realize are DEAD kids... plus, I fully intend to respect people's wishes on if they want to interact with a character under 18 and will never initiate anything above PG-13 without prior discussion.

FACTION SUITABILITY:

The Shuten Clan: Despite being a youthful short king, Chongyun is strong! His spirit is one that comes along every thousand generations that basically instantly obliterates evil spirits (nerfed in game, but still!) while terrifying ghosts and other supernatural beings. He fights with a claymore, which takes a great deal of physical strength to use. He's also extremely hardworking in pursuit of his goals, constantly training his mind, body, and spirit. There's also that element of responsibility with dominion—Chongyun feels a great deal of responsibility toward his occupation as an exorcist and his clan back home. Also, while he's generally "good" he isn't particularly "lawful." He will make decisions that go against what may be the correct choice if he feels like it is the right decision, and fully intends to take responsibility for his actions if they go belly-up. I'll also flag that, aesthetically, he's blue. Red and blue oni are a thing, right?

The Tamamo Clan: ....... he'd explode in this clan, HAHA (which would be very very fun!). His strong spirit and talent with magic might catch Tenko-hime's eye, but he might be too clear-hearted and staightforward for her tastes. He would, however, be a delight to tease and send on senseless missions, which he would do dutifully even if it was something stupid and made up. He's constantly pranked by the troublemakers in his own canon, much to their delight, so maybe they'd like that?

That all said, a few characters comment in voice lines that they think that the passionate and wild Chongyun that appears once he gets too overheated is the real Chongyun. Several of his own voice lines also suggest that he really wants freedom from everything he must do in order to balance his yang energy out; he polices himself constantly, ranging from what he wears to what he eats to even when he goes outside. He's also the heir to a family of exorcists that have been in Liyue for generations, so with that comes the expectation of inheritance. Between these two things, he's never lived a normal life. Some of his dreams are those of doing everything he can't, like experiencing hot springs and going to a concert with rousing music. So, while Tamamo may not seem like a fit at first glance, it definitely suits his secret desires and "truer" nature. What it must be like to live without restraint, ah?

The Sutoku Alliance: Considering the recent changes in Liyue with the "death" of their archon, the idea of "the people need power, and power requires those with the wisdom to manage it" isnt' foreign to him. It seems very much the style of Liyue Harbor under the Liyue Qixing. The people now have power without the guidance of their archon, and now they must use their own wisdom to live it. As such, I think he would appreciate the way Sutoku operates, since it's the most similar to home. He would also appreciate keeping his personal identity instead of melding into what a clan would want of him based on their desires because Chongyun has zero plans to quit being an exorcist despite being in Hell. Also, due to the way Chongyun lives in order to balance his yang energy with manual yin, asceticism is extremely suitable for him.

Chongyun is canonically always looking for information, too! He pursues rumors of evil spirits and strange happenings, so much so that he's got a title for dispelling rumors. Most of these turn out to be dead ends or completely unrelated to what he's actually looking for, but you'll never know the truth if you don't go out and look for it.

The Department of the Enma: Chongyun is first and foremost an exorcist, and he's from a family of exorcists who have been protecting Liyue from evil spirits for generations. Purging evil is second nature to him. He fully intends to continue to do this even in Hell with modded stipulations of "protect peaceful spirits, beat up evil spirits". While he isn't especially lawful on principle, he does what he believes is right and judges on a case-by-case basis. While not particularly talented with administration and not exactly a cop, he does want to peacekeep so that everyone can live well. He's also from Liyue, which is the nation established under the god of contracts and where business is king, so the Department of Enma would feel extremely familiar to him!

The most obvious choice seemed like Enma before I dug into each clan and wrote these out. Now, I feel like he would be interesting in any one, since each clan/group touches on a different element! I leave the choice in your modly hands.
